People with food addiction eat uncontrollably more than usual and in larger quantities, often without real hunger or feeling full, despite the physical and emotional problems it causes them. They may hide their problem by eating secretly or alone.
Food is often used to cope with negative emotional states (depression, anxiety, dissatisfaction) or family and other issues. However, as a result of consuming large amounts of food, feelings of guilt, shame, and anxiety arise. Despite these negative emotions, individuals continue to eat due to increased discomfort, leading to a vicious cycle or spiral that is difficult to break without specialized psychological treatment.
